On January 19, around 12:18 p.m., Kamloops RCMP received a report of a theft from a retail store on the 500-block of Notre Dame Drive, in which a man allegedly stole several hundred dollars worth of merchandise, fled through the store’s emergency exit, and into a brown truck. A license plate was obtained and confirmed the truck was stolen. While patrolling the area, frontline officers located the vehicle and requested the assistance of the RCMP Air Services Helicopter to help maintain a visual on the truck as it drove erratically through the city. Kamloops man pulled from river, later pronounced dead

Kamloops RCMP Detachment Media ReleaseJanuary 18, 2021File number: 21-1748 A Kamloops man died over the weekend after being pulled from the river Saturday morning. On January 16, around 11:34 a.m., Kamloops received a report of a suspicious circumstance involving a man in the river near the 1800-block of Douglas Road. The man had been in the water for 15 minutes and was not moving. Kamloops RCMP frontline officers, BC Emergency Health Services, and Kamloops Fire Rescue attended and located a man lying face up with his lower body in the water. The man was transported to hospital in Kamloops, then Kelowna, where he died later that night. Police do not suspect any criminality in the man’s death at this time. On Thursday, January 7, at approximately 8:12 p.m., Kamloops RCMP received a report of a theft in progress at a business on the 1000 block of Hillside Drive, Kamloops BC. According to the report, a man left the store through an emergency exit with unpaid merchandise. When staff attempted to stop the man, he flashed what appeared to be a firearm. Kamloops RCMP frontline officers quickly responded, along with the Police Dog Service Unit. On Monday January 11, around 3 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the Red Bridge near Lorne Street for an assault involving a maintenance worker and two men in an older “dirty” sports utility vehicle.  According to the report, a maintenance worker was repairing pot holes on the bridge when a southbound vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed. In the early hours of January 10, a woman reported she had been parked in her vehicle at Riverside Park when a stranger approached her and said he had been injured and needed a ride. The woman stated she was sexually assaulted during the drive. Guns, drugs and money located in Kamloops police investigation

More than five kilograms of drugs and three firearms were seized after Kamloops RCMP officers executed three warrants in less than 24 hours. On January 7, around 10:30 a.m., the Kamloops Targeted Enforcement Unit (TEU), with the assistance of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (ERT), executed a search warrant at a west Valleyview residential unit as part of an ongoing drug investigation.  That search led investigators to two more locations. With the assistance of frontline officers, TEU was able to execute warrants at an address in Sun Rivers and a storage locker at the Tk’emlups Reserve. Kamloops RCMP Detachment Media Release January 8, 2021 Almost 200 teddy bears will have an extra-special mission this year, thanks to a donation from Calendar Club to Police Based Victim Services. On Tuesday January 5, staff from the Aberdeen location of the seasonal store attended the Kamloops RCMP Detachment to present nine boxes of “trauma bears” to Kamloops Police Based Victim Services (PBVS). The bears will be available for police and victim service workers to give to children and adults who have witnessed or experienced tragedy, said Kamloops PBVS Program Manager, Ula Chauret, who accepted the donation from Calendar Club employee Madison Kopytko. In the last week, Kamloops RCMP received at least two complaints involving people who were scammed after responding to an online rental ad. In both cases, the ad was for a property on Summit Drive and the interested parties were asked to send an international etransfer to Africa to secure the rental. Although both these scams were reported to have occurred on the rental website Zoeken, this type of scam is not new and can happen on any website.
