Kamloops man pulled from river, later pronounced dead

A Kamloops man died over the weekend after being pulled from the river Saturday morning.

On January 16, around 11:34 a.m., Kamloops received a report of a suspicious circumstance involving a man in the river near the 1800-block of Douglas Road. The man had been in the water for 15 minutes and was not moving.

Kamloops RCMP frontline officers, BC Emergency Health Services, and Kamloops Fire Rescue attended and located a man lying face up with his lower body in the water. The man was transported to hospital in Kamloops, then Kelowna, where he died later that night. Police do not suspect any criminality in the man’s death at this time.

The BC Coroners Service has been notified and is also investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. To protect the privacy of the deceased, under the Coroners Act, identification will not be released.

The RCMP and the BC Coroners Service have no further information to provide.
