The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect in a recent retail store robbery.
On Thursday, January 7, at approximately 8:12 p.m., Kamloops RCMP received a report of a theft in progress at a business on the 1000 block of Hillside Drive, Kamloops BC. According to the report, a man left the store through an emergency exit with unpaid merchandise. When staff attempted to stop the man, he flashed what appeared to be a firearm.
Kamloops RCMP frontline officers quickly responded, along with the Police Dog Service Unit. Three people were located and initially detained, but later released as they did not fit the description of the suspect.
The suspect is described as:
-Caucasian male
-five-feet, seven inches in height
-approximately 180 pounds
-neck tattoos
-blue jeans
-black and white shoes
-black hoody
-red bandanna over his face
While Kamloops RCMP frontline officers investigate the robbery with the assistance of the General Investigation Support Team, the Crime Prevention Unit has been working with local businesses to help prevent such crimes.
Through its Crime Prevention Unit, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment has been reaching out to local businesses and offering its support and services, including inviting them to join the Business Watch Program if they haven’t already. Business Watch is a partnership program between the City of Kamloops, RCMP, and local businesses to help prevent crime from occurring and increase a sense of safety and security.
Tips on theft and robbery prevention, information about what to provide police with for a more successful investigation, and even a site visit and evaluation are some of the services available to help support local businesses. A Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design assessment can help businesses see what areas may be creating opportunities for criminal activity, as well as offer suggestions for remedies.
