Early morning robbery lands three people in cells

Kamloops RCMP Detachment Media Release –February 8, 2021File: 2021-4166 A report of a robbery involving a suspected firearm lead to a large police presence in the Ord Road area earlier this morning. Around 7:15 a.m. on February 8, Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to a report involving a man who had been robbed of a bike by someone with what appeared to be a firearm. The suspect’s vehicle was located nearby and several people were arrested. An airsoft pistol and a quantity of drugs were seized by police during the investigation. The victim and suspect are known to each other and there is no risk to the general public. Three people remain in custody as part of the investigation. Quick-thinking officer uses Narcan on unconscious man

Kamloops Detachment Media Release –February 4, 2021File: 2021-2722 The quick action of Kamloops police may have saved a man’s life last week. On January 25, just before 4 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers noticed an unconscious man on a bench near the detachment at 560 Battle St. One of the officers checked the man and discovered he was not breathing and had a weak pulse. The officer was able to rouse the man slightly and administer a nasal dose of Narcan – a medicine used to temporarily block the effects of opioids. “Luckily the officer had the quick sense to recognize what kind of medical emergency was occurring and take fast action to prevent a potentially lethal overdose,” said Constable Crystal Evelyn, spokesperson for the Kamloops RCMP. Kamloops residents cautioned of spreading COVID-19 scams

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is warning residents about COVID-19 scams circulating throughout the province. Although the Kamloops RCMP Detachment has not received any reports of COVID-19 scams yet, scammers have contacted British Columbians by phone or email to offer vaccinations, cures, tests and sanitizer. “We want to make sure that if someone here is targeted, they have the tools in place to know how to deal with it,” said Corporal Dana Napier of the Kamloops RCMP Crime Prevention Unit. On January 28, around 7:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP received a report of an unknown man walking into the Thompson River from the north bank side, dunking his head into the water, and trying to swim across. According to witnesses, he bobbed up and down several times before disappearing under the surface. On January 12, around 2:13 p.m., frontline officers attended a retail location on the 700-block of Tranquille Road after a man reported he had been spit on by a patron who was asked to leave. On January 19, around 9:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP received a report of an intoxicated man being aggressive and confrontational with staff and customers at a business on the 900-block of Columbia Street. While police were en route, they were advised the same person had assaulted someone. Police arrived on scene and attempted to arrest a man matching the description, who resisted and allegedly punched an officer multiple times. He continued to resist as he was apprehended and taken to cells. The man was held to sober up safely, then released with conditions and a court date.

Around 9:33 a.m., January 21, Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to a report of a man activating a “Taser baton” on the 1800-block of Tranquille Road near Holt Street. A description of the man was provided and officers located and arrested him nearby. A stun baton, knives, drugs, drug paraphernalia and stolen property were seized as part of the investigation. The man was released with conditions and a court date.
