The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect after a retail employee reported being assaulted while trying to prevent a theft.

On January 5, 2021 around 6:36 p.m., a man in a blond wig and mask entered a retail business on the 500-block of Notre Dame Drive, shopped for a bit, then attempted to leave the store with unpaid merchandise, according to a report received by frontline officers. When an employee attempted to stop the man from leaving, he discharged a can of bear spray.

The man is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • 20-30 years old
  • a blond wig
  • face mask
  • white t-shirt over a black long-sleeved shirt
  • camo plants

The man fled on foot through the back door of the store, ran to a parking lot on Summit Drive, and sped away in a grey SUV. No plate was captured.
