Kamloops RCMP Detachment Media Release
January 18, 2021
File number: 21-2055/1989
A stolen truck, retail theft, and vehicle crash led to one man being arrested by Kamloops RCMP Tuesday afternoon.
On January 19, around 12:18 p.m., Kamloops RCMP received a report of a theft from a retail store on the 500-block of Notre Dame Drive, in which a man allegedly stole several hundred dollars worth of merchandise, fled through the store’s emergency exit, and into a brown truck. A license plate was obtained and confirmed the truck was stolen.
While patrolling the area, frontline officers located the vehicle and requested the assistance of the RCMP Air Services Helicopter to help maintain a visual on the truck as it drove erratically through the city. At one point, the truck was observed driving eastbound into oncoming traffic on Notre Dame Avenue before side-swiping another vehicle and landing itself in the ditch. No injuries were reported.
The vehicle’s driver fled on foot onto Robinson Crescent. Schools in the area were contacted and placed into a hold and secure while police tracked the suspect.
With the assistance of the Police Dog Services Unit, the suspect was located in a compost bin on the 800-block of Robinson Crescent and taken into police custody.
The investigation is ongoing and at this time, police have no further information to release.
