Drug Enforcement Activity Leads To Arrests

On August 13, 2020 members of the Crime Reduction Unit conducted a traffic stop that resulted in an arrest and the seizure of a kilogram of cocaine.  The male, a 49 year old resident of Cherry Creek, was released pending further investigation. On September 4, 2020 RCMP Kamloops Targeted Enforcement Unit and Crime Reduction Unit conducted several enforcement actions related to this investigation. First, a traffic stop was conducted with a 35 year old resident of Kamloops that led to an arrest and seizure of two kilograms of cocaine. A second 35 year old male was arrested in another traffic stop that led to the seizure of a significant amount of Canadian currency. Kamloops RCMP File: 2020-29738Date: September 4, 2020 On September 4, 2020 at 7:41 AM Kamloops RCMP responded to a call concerning a distraught man. This evolved into an armed and barricaded situation that required RCMP to contain the scene by restricting traffic and evacuating some nearby homes. RCMP Kamloops worked with the South East District Emergency Response Team to deploy a de-escalation process that has successfully resolved this situation.  At approximately 9:37 AM a man was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported directly to a local medical facility. Kamloops RCMP File: 2020-29738Date: September 4, 2020 On September 4, 2020 at 7:41 AM Kamloops RCMP responded to an unfolding incident in the east end of the Juniper subdivision. RCMP members are currently on scene in the vicinity of Qu'Appelle Blvd and Cheakamus Dr. This situation is best described as an armed and barricaded person who is not cooperative. To ensure the safety of all involved, RCMP have restricted vehicle and pedestrian traffic to the affected area and are evacuating some nearby homes. RCMP members are engaged in a negotiation and de-escalation process at this time and unfortunately we cannot predict how long this situation will take to resolve. Stolen Bikes / Tools Seized during Search of Property in Kamloops, BC

Date: August 28, 2020 On August 26, 2020, Kamloops RCMP Crime Reduction Unit attended a property on Cornwall Drive to assist Kamloops City Bylaw with a follow up to a property that received multiple complaints to Bylaw and Police.  Upon entry to the property Kamloops RCMP Crime Reduction Unit identified stolen property in plain view.  Kamloops RCMP Crime Reduction Unit drafted and executed a search warrant on the property.  Kamloops RCMP Crime Reduction Unit seized multiple stolen bikes, stolen tools and replica firearms.  Neighbours commended the RCMP for their work and are hopeful with the assistance of Bylaw and the RCMP the complaints drawn from the problem property will cease.

File Number: 2020-28605Aug. 25, 2020Security Incident at Royal Inland HospitalOn August 25, 2020 at approximately 2:10 p, the Kamloops RCMP responded to a third party security threat made by phone to the Royal Inland Hospital.An unknown caller called the hospital switchboard stating that another person may have left an explosive device in one of the washrooms of the place. "While we always take these threats seriously, it's important to know that the hospital security did all that was needed to be done to ensure the safety of everyone within that place" said S/Sgt VAN LAER of the Kamloops RCMP. Update to Cyclist Collision

August 18, 2020 Update On August 16, 2020 the Kamloops RCMP located the driver of the pickup truck with the assistance of a witness who was able to obtain the license plate of the vehicle.  The driver of the vehicle was issued a violation ticket and charged under the Motor Vehicle Act.
