The quick action of Kamloops police may have saved a man’s life last week.
On January 25, just before 4 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers noticed an unconscious man on a bench near the detachment at 560 Battle St. One of the officers checked the man and discovered he was not breathing and had a weak pulse. The officer was able to rouse the man slightly and administer a nasal dose of Narcan – a medicine used to temporarily block the effects of opioids.
“Luckily the officer had the quick sense to recognize what kind of medical emergency was occurring and take fast action to prevent a potentially lethal overdose,” said Constable Crystal Evelyn, spokesperson for the Kamloops RCMP.
The man regained consciousness temporarily, but began losing it again. He was taken to hospital by police where his medical treatment continued.
