The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 389 calls for service from Friday May 10 to 9 a.m. on Monday May 13, 2024. Below are some highlights from those reports.
Assault with a weapon

Police are looking for witnesses and information related to a Sunday night assault near the river.
On May 12, 2024, around 9:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 40-block of 7th Avenue to assist ambulance with an injured man. The man stated he had been assaulted with a weapon by several people in the park on the 100-block of Lorne Street. He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Arson investigation

A small fire at a North Shore business is being treated as an arson.
On Monday May 13, 2024, around 4:20 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers and firefighters were called to a commercial location on the 100-block of Wilson Street where a smashed window had been discovered, followed by a small fire inside a building. As part of the investigation, police discovered the fire began around 2:10 a.m., when a suspect was observed breaking a window and throwing an incendiary object inside.
The suspect is described as wearing a camouflage toque, surgical mask, dark jacket or sweater, red gloves, black pants, and black shoes with white soles, and departed on a mountain bike. It is unknown if this incident is connected to any other recent arson reports.

Police locate person in medical distress

Officers responding to a request for a check-well being located a person in urgent need of medical intervention.
On May 11, around 1 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to an address in Westsyde to check the well-being of a resident. As part of their response, police breached the resident’s door and discovered them to be inside and in medical distress.
The person was transported to hospital by ambulance and their family was notified.
Ice cream theft: man arrested

A Kamloops man spent the evening sobering up with police, following a string of reports Friday evening.
On May 10, 2024, just before 8 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers received a report of a theft of ice cream from a business on Lorne Street. The suspect fled on foot, but later returned to try and get more ice cream. Two disturbance reports involving the same suspect were also received on Victoria Street.
Police located and arrested a suspect on Lansdowne Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. He was lodged in cells to prevent continuation of the offence and released without process, as per the property representatives’ request at the time.
