The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 319 calls for service from Friday March 8, to 9 a.m. on Monday March 11, 2024. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Arson investigation

Kamloops police are looking for information related to a dumpster fire extinguished on Sunday.

On March 10, 2024, around 5:20 p.m., the Kamloops RCMP Detachment received a report of an arson on the 1800-block of the Trans Canada Highway East. Officers patrolled the area for a suspect, but no one was located.

The suspect is described as male wearing all black, a hoodie with a white triangle over the forehead area, and a backpack. He was carrying a beige bag. An image obtained as part of the investigation is being released to the public to help further the investigation.

Drug seizure

Approximately 39 grams of suspected illegal drugs were seized during a traffic stop Saturday night.

On March 9, 2024, around 10:22 p.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was patrolling the area of Tranquille Road and 12th Street when he conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with obvious deficiencies. As part of the investigation, suspected drugs including fentanyl, heroin, and meth, were seized for destruction. The truck was towed due to its deficiencies, with repairs required before it can return to the road.

Disturbance report: man charged with assault, theft, and breach

After receiving a release order on Friday, a man was back in custody on Saturday and stands charged with three new offences.

On March 9, 2024, around 12:20 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to a business on the 400-block of Lansdowne Street for a disturbance involving a man yelling at security. On scene, it was reported to police that the man had allegedly been stealing and when confronted, attempted to assault someone with a weapon.

The suspect was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing, during which he was remanded until his next court appearance later this week. He is charged with the following new offences: theft; failure to comply with a court order, and assault with a weapon.
