An extra 21 impaired drivers were removed from the roadway this holiday season, thanks to proactive enforcement by the Kamloops RCMP.
As 2020 came to a close, so did the Kamloops RCMP Counter Attack campaign, which included three weekends of road checks and extra enforcement to help keep people safe on the city’s roadways. The last Counter Attack event for the season wrapped up the weekend before Christmas, with four drivers receiving a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day vehicle impound for impaired driving under the Motor Vehicle Act.
In total, this year’s Counter Attack resulted in the following:
Impaired by alcohol – 21
Vehicle impoundments – 4
Prohibited drivers – 1
Of the impaired drivers, 14 received a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day vehicle impound for having more than 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. Seven received three-day driving prohibitions.
Along with removing impaired drivers, police also recovered stolen license plates, issued violation tickets and warnings, and served a prohibited driver notice.
As Kamloops RCMP welcomes 2021, it would like to remind everyone that safe and sober driving is the responsibility of motorists at all times, not just during the holiday season.
